MS Ride Across Minnesota

Passing through Menahga Sunday, July 26th - 27th

The Menahga Civic and Commerce is honored to be sponsoring the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) “Ride Across Minnesota”. The “Ride” will begin in the City of Menahga, with riders and volunteers coming in on Sunday, July 26th. The “Ride” will then take-off on Monday morning, July 27th. Riders will arrive back for the final leg to Menahga on Friday, July 31st, for a meal and celebration. Other stops will be in Park Rapids, Wadena, and Pequot Lakes. If anyone is interested in joining the “Ride”, please register as noted on the poster. This is a very important fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis!

The Menahga Civic and Commerce Association and The Economic Alliance welcomed Ryan Patenaude, co-owner of “Spirit Lake Motel & Resort" and "Scoopology” on Monday, March 2nd, 2026.

We all welcome Pastor Patenaude and Hans Tanner to Menahga and wish them great success!

"Ah, this would be so fun, and I know the guy selling it. Great guy." That's the email Ryan
Patenaude received from his friend and business partner, Hans Tanner, last September.
Attached was a flyer for Spirit Lake Resort and Scoopology Ice Cream, which had just been
placed on the market. Hans did not expect anything to happen because of his email, but on
December 31 st they became the new owners. And so far, it has been fun.

The previous owner sold the property so he could spend more time with his family. Ryan
and Hans bought it with hopes to spend more time with their families. Combined, they
have nine children and hope to make many memories in Menahga, working on the motel
and enjoying ice cream on the beach. They both love pickle ball as well, making the nearby
courts an exciting bonus!

Owners Ryan and Hans met while Ryan was interning at Hans' church in Fargo. Eight years
later, Hans is now going on his own internship. Ryan pastors a country church outside of
Kindred, ND, and both men are hoping that Hans gets a call to a nearby congregation when
he finishes his internship next spring.

One aspect of the deal both buyers and seller were happy about was Shannon Klein's
desire to stay on as general manager. "Kyle told us that Shannon was a rockstar and we are
excited to grow the business with her," Ryan said. She has a lot of exciting ideas and is a joy
to work with."

The new owners hope to make incremental improvements and carry on the vision that Kyle
had for the resort.

Welcome to Menahga

The Menahga Civic and Commerce Association and The Economic Alliance welcomed Deanna Negrete, owner of the “Massage by Deanna” on Monday, March 2nd, 2026.

We all welcome Deanna to Menahga and wish her success!

I n November 2025, Deanna Negrete, Massage Therapist, opened at 18 Main St SE in Menahga. She is a graduate of M-State in Wadena.

A massage is individualized according to each client. Some of the reasons for a massage could be the following: decrease muscle tension/headaches, increase circulation, assist in balancing the nervous system, lowering stress, promotes relaxation which improves sleep. Deanna is available to help achieve balance and assist wellness goals.

In her time off, Deanna enjoys gardening, fishing, appreciates nature, spending time with children/grandchildren and friends. She is continuing to learn how to assist the body to naturally heal with simple life choices. She enjoys the small-town family friendly atmosphere in Menahga.

There will be one clue each week. The medallion looks like this and can be turned in to Jan Hillstrom at Jan's Hair Attitude when found.

St Urho liked to use birch branches for a great switch
for the sauna to really get the blood flowing.
It’s not the time of year to harvest grain,
but make sure you have enough to last.
The Coop is a historic part of our town.

The Menahga C & C and Economic Alliance welcomed Trevor and Maryn Torola, new owners of Menahga Floors & More on March 18, 2026. The Torolas took over the business on February 3rd 2026. They offer flooring: Luxury Vinyl Plank, Luxury Vinyl Tile, Laminate, Sheet Vinyl, and carpet, as well as countertops, cabinets and onyx showers. They also display window blinds for a Park Rapids individual.
